Will Yahoo Answers survive?
With Microsoft buying Yahoo, do you think they’ll keep Yahoo Answers?
Yahoo at all? I would guess they’d keep Yahoo since it’s such a recognizable and big name, but they might combine their search into it, or just redirect everything to their Windows Live service.

Good question, I think they’ll keep it but might rebrand elements of it as Yahoo are not doing to well at the moment.

I hope Yahoo Answers does survive. I also hope that Yahoo doesn’t sell. I read a headline briefly that the offer has to be reviewed first before the merger can take place.

First of all, its not set that Microsoft is buying Yahoo, they have made an unsolicited proposal, that’s all.
The Yahoo! Board is undertaking a deliberate review process. They’re going to take time to thoroughly evaluate the proposal in the context of Yahoo!’s strategic plans. This will include evaluating all of the Company’s strategic alternatives – including maintaining Yahoo! as an independent company. That process will take some time, but the Board will ultimately pursue the option that it believes can best maximize value for their shareholders.
Microsoft’s $31-per-share offer — originally valued at $44.6 billion — represented a 62 percent premium to Yahoo’s closing price late Thursday, although it’s below Yahoo’s 52-week high of $34.08 reached less than four months ago. On Friday, the total value of the cash-and-stock deal fell to $41.7 billion, or $28.95 per share, because Microsoft’s shares declined on the news.
Why did they make the offer? Because MSN lost its spot as to Google. They cannot topple Google on their own. That they made the offer shows how desperate they are.

I was wondering that myself. I don’t like Microsoft or MSN and I don’t use it. Microsoft’s concepts and strategy are completely different from Yahoo’s and they may not see Answers as a viable strategy in terms or profitability or in attracting advertisors. I really enjoy Yahoo just as it is and will miss it - especially Answers - and I definitely prefer Yahoo email and use it all the time. I do not like the setup for Hotmail, or Windows Live email, or whatever they are calling it now and seldom use that email account. I doubt very much that Microsoft will let the site stay the same, with all of the current services that Yahoo provides - and Yahoo provides some great services; it really is an enjoyable site and that is why it has so much traffic and so many visitors. I expect that Microsoft will make some big changes and eventually just absorb Yahoo and merge it with MSN. Yahoo was their biggest competitor and was the most visited site - although Google, of course, was the leading search engine used. My opinion, Microsoft will mess it up - I hope the buyout doesn’t happen, but it looks like Microsoft made an offer - twice the Market Value - that Yahoo would be foolish to turn down. Also, the Chairman of Yahoo shouldn’t have resigned just because Yahoo hasn’t beaten Google yet (which was his goal) - Yahoo is a great search engine, I use it a lot and find it just as good; but unfortunately Google is the search engine that has status with investors as the premier search engine site and, as such, it gets the all of the advertising.
I really hope I’m wrong and that Yahoo will hang in there and realize that they are going in the right direction and that it will be worth it in the long run to stay in the game. Long Live Yahoo!!
